The second tenet in the aims of PWOC is to teach the history of the church. Molly Kaplan has a passion to learn and share that history. She describes it like this: “From an early age, I’ve always had a special love and desire to study ancient history but these last few years my focus has turned to Biblical history. In June of 2003 I read a remarkable book. I consider the book remarkable because as I read this book, God sparked within me a deep hunger and passion for Church history, causing me to dig deeply into our Christian heritage and traditions. That book was the infamous “The Da Vinci Code” written by Dan Brown. I found myself wondering why I knew so little about my own history as a Christian. Could Dan Brown actually be truthfully writing about our history? By now, the answer to that question is well documented and an emphatic no! However, I still find that most of us have little or no knowledge of the early church. Without that knowledge we have no way to defend our faith against the Dan Brown’s of the world. I have discovered a truth about Apologetics; not only do you use the Word in defending your faith but the weight of history and tradition that goes along with it. I saw this book as a great opportunity to win people to Christ. However, I had to learn how and what to investigate in order to learn more about the truth of our history as well as learn to convincingly share these truths in a loving manner. One of the greatest gifts God can give is a passion for knowing Him better and a desire to learn more. Sometimes that passion can take unusual forms. I have found that God has given me opportunities to use my spiritual gift of teaching and my God given passion for Church history and the yearning to share with others what I have discovered. I never suspected that God would work through me in this manner, but He has.” Presentation topics: Molly Kaplan |
